These small wind instruments have many different names - chalumeau, pocket clarinet/saxophone or xaphoon. They are played with a saxophone or clarinet mouthpiece and bamboo reeds. They all provide an excellent introduction to the world of woodwinds. While the look and fingering are similar to the recorder, the core sound is much more like the clarinet or saxophone.
