The flugelhorn is closely related to the trumpet and the cornet. If you straighten the horn, you will find that it has the same length as a trumpet, but it has a more conical bore. This detail gives the flugel horn a softer and darker tone than both the cornet and the trumpet. One often sees flugel horns with three valves and trigger on the 3rd slide and more rarely four valves. The flugelhorn is used in many styles of music and is well suited for ballads and thoughtful tunes.
